i love this

The other day, Hannah had a couple of her friends over to play. When I peeked out the window to check on them, this is what I saw.



It brought back so many good memories of when I was growing up...little girls just laughing, playing, and having a great time together. :)


This weekend, Kevin put up a tree swing for the kids, and they absolutely LOVE it! That's something we always wanted to do while we were in CA but couldn't because we lived in an apartment complex. Now they're finally able to have one, and it's so fun watching them play on it.

The street out in front of our house slopes down a little bit (and we very rarely have cars drive by). So the kids and their friend, Karson, had fun coasting down the hill today. I was able to just sit on our porch and watch them play in the street. I love living in a small town. :)

mixed emotions

I just got a call from my friend Cori in CA that she's going to have her baby tomorrow! She's 38 weeks and due to some minor complications, they've decided to go ahead and deliver her by c-section. Her friendship is one that I never imagined or expected to have while I was in CA. But none the less, our families became very close while we were there, and I'm so thankful! So not being there for the birth is really bittersweet for me. On one hand, I'm so excited for her and know that she's so relieved that it'll be over. But on the other hand, I REALLY want to be there. Looks like I'll be buying a plane ticket in the very near future. :)

my birthday present

My birthday was a few days ago, and my present from my wonderful husband was a porch swing!!! Ever since we started looking at buying our house, I knew that if we got it, I wanted a porch swing. I figured it would be a while until we got one, but Kevin surprised me with it for my bday. So of course I had to get pictures of him putting it together and hanging it. :)



Just for the record, my husband is not afraid to read directions....well, most of the time.

2nd generation play time

The other day my friend Angie and her two little girls came for a visit. Her older daughter, Emilia, and Jessa are the same age and love to play together. Whenever we get together, it's so fun for us to watch them play because it reminds us of when we were little. We grew up together (and lived only one block from each other) and were pretty much inseparable until we went to different colleges and got married. So with our move back to KS, it's been great to be able to see them more often. We always wanted our little girls to be close and be able to play together like we did, and now we have that. :) God is good!!

preschool

This past Monday when Nathan & Hannah started school, I started preschool here at home with Jessa and Carter (our friends Jared and Jeannie's little boy). So far it's been going really well, and they're getting along great. They both love preschool and are enjoying learning new things. Of course, we've only done it for one week, and it's still new, but I'm optimistic that it'll continue to go well. Anyway, here are a couple pics from our first day.

My two older babies started back up with school today as 3rd and 4th graders! My how the time flies...I just wish it wouldn't fly quite so quickly sometimes. :) I love watching our kids get older and seeing all the changes they go through, but there are times when I just want to do everything in my power to stop them from growing up so fast!

It was raining when I took them to school this morning, so I really didn't have time to dwell on the irony of walking my kids up the exact same sidewalk and through the exact same doors that I walked on and through as a child. It's probably a good thing because as I'm sitting here now, I'm getting a little emotional, and I'm pretty sure that wouldn't have gone over well with them this morning. Going in with them was purely selfish and for my own benefit. But I promised them I wouldn't do it again...just this first morning. :)

I'm happy to report that they had a great first day. When I went to pick them up, both their mouths were bubbling over about how much fun they had and the new friends that they made. I am so grateful! Going to a new school is never easy, but the Lord was definitely with them today. They weren't even ready to come home!

Anyway, enough blabbering from me. Here's a picture of the three of them before I took them to school.

Kevin was out mowing our yard the other day, and Jessa decided that he needed her help. She had a great time!

School enrollment

I went to enroll Nathan and Hannah in school today. I say this every year, but it REALLY doesn't seem possible that it's time for school to start again. Although this summer is shorter for us than normal since moving from CA. School starts about three weeks later in CA than it does here. But my kids don't mind at all...in fact, they're SO ready for school to start. It was a little bit deja vuish as I was walking up the sidewalk into the grade school. This is the school I went to as a child, and now my babies are going there! I was able to walk though and see the changes that have been made as well as the things that have been the same for well over 30 years. I'm really excited for my kids to go there. It will be a totally different experience from the CA schools, but it's one that I think they'll really enjoy and appreciate. I know I will! :)
