Yay for good eye checkups

As some of you may know, Hannah was born with crossed eyes with the left one being worse than the right. This isn't something we noticed until she was about three months old when her eyes should have been tracking better, but they weren't. We took her to her first eye appointment when she was five months old and were told that she would most likely need surgery. They referred us to an ophthalmologist, which is a surgical eye doctor, who said that she would definitely need surgery on both eyes. When she was nine months old she had her first surgery. Her surgeon and nurses were so good, and we felt totally comfortable with them. But watching them take her away from me, knowing what was going to happen, was one of the hardest moments in my life. Needless to say, the whole procedure from start to finish was only about 20 minutes, and I had her back in my arms again within 30 minutes from the time they took her back. She did amazingly well with her recovery and was playing on the floor with her toys as soon as we got home later that day.

As the years went by, we noticed that her eyes would still wander a little from time to time. So when she was 4 she went in for her second surgery on both eyes again. The recovery was a lot rougher that time but after a few days, she was back to normal. Since then her eyes have continually improved.

We found a great doctor here in California and have been seeing him since we moved here. On Hannah's first appointment with him two years ago, her eyesight in her right eye was perfect at 20/20, but her left eye was really bad at 20/200. He had us start patching her good eye so her bad eye could strengthen and improve. Well...after just five weeks of patching, her eye went from 20/200 to 20/80, which was a HUGE improvement in such a short amount of time. On the next appointment five weeks later it was 20/40! Since that time, her eyes have continued to improve.

When we went in today we found out that she is now using both of her eyes together as far as focusing goes, and she is now at 20/30 on her bad eye(I guess I can't call it bad anymore). Before she was only using her dominant eye to really focus on things. The improvements are obviously much smaller now from appointment to appointment, but they're still coming, and we can't ask for more than that. We're so thankful to the Lord for healing Hannah's eyes. To look at her today, you would never know that there was ever anything wrong with her eyes. God is good!
